Senior Research Engineer

Cong Thanh Nguyen

Cong is a Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering with more than 10 years of experience. He is highly skilled in research on semiconductor physics, advanced sensing technology, micro-electro-mechanical sensors & actuators, micro-nanomachining fabrication, and sensor network for smart city and harsh environment. Before joining G2X as a senior research engineer, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at Queensland Micro and Nanotechnology Centre, Griffith University from December 2021 to August 2024. He has proposed novel sensing mechanisms for ultrasensitive mechanical sensors and innovative design solutions for geotechnical sensors. His key projects include Advanced geotechnical sensing & early warning system for smart highway (ARC Linkage), Nano optoelectronic coupling: towards an ultrasensitive sensing technology (ARC Discovery), Development of smart sensor system for soft soil engineering and construction safety (IMCRC), and Miniaturised robotic laser device for ultra-precise and pain-free dentistry (IMCRC). He has published 17 journal articles, 6 conference papers, 1 book chapter, and filed 1 patent. Many of his publications are in prestigious, high-impact journals, such as Nano Energy (IF16.8), ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces (IF 8.3), Applied Materials Today (IF 7.2), Mechanical Systems & Signal Processing (IF 7.9), etc.

Cong obtained his PhD in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at University of Technology Sydney in 2021. His thesis focuses on design, modelling and simulation of novel electrified vehicle powertrains, proposal of energy management and gearshift control strategies, and parameter optimisation. The results of his thesis are published in 5 journal articles and 3 conference papers. He is also highly expertise in development of innovative mechanical systems, modelling, simulation & control of mechatronics systems, data analysis, and design & build of test rigs. From 2013 to 2017, Cong was a Lecturer at University of Transport and Communications in Vietnam where he lectured mechanical and mechatronics courses, studied related fields, and conducted lab-based activities.
